Integration Spotting
A Real World Example of Integration Marketing
I spotted this great example of integration marketing over a year ago, but I thought it was such a good idea when I saw it that the idea stuck with me. In fact, it even inspired me to purchase the domain www.checkoutcharities.org. Someday, I'm going to build out this site so that any ecommerce website can integrate an upsell on their checkout page that shows every paying customer a simple checkbox item that says, "Would you like to donate $1 to [site owner's favorite non-profit] via checkoutcharities.org?" What makes this such a great example is that the upsell is integrated right into the credit card terminal's menu, so just before you complete your transaction, you are asked a simple, yet powerful question: ![]() What makes this so powerful is that it is very easy for the customer to comply. The customer only has to spend a few seconds reading a question, and then must answer YES or NO, and he's done. This particular example of integration marketing is successful for three reasons: 1) Credibility. - the store where this integration marketing is taking place is large and reputable. Customers who shop here trust this store. 2) It's for a good cause. Since this integration point is at a pet store, customers at this store are going to be pet owners, and a good percentage of them are likely going to be supportive of donations that helps homeless pets. 3) It's so inexpensive, most customers won't even feel the pain of spending an extra dollar. And because they're already using their credit card to make a purchase, it's as easy as clicking on a button to donate. That's about as easy and pain-free as you can get!
